Master-classes are taught in the ABK / Frei Otto designed workshop. Participants are taught new skills in design and making prototypical 1:1 architectures. They are immersed in the latest technologies and processes with the comprehensive wood and metal workshops including industrial grade CNC machinery, robot arm and traditional industrial grade workshop tools allowing participants to learn authentic, traditional and innovative fabrication techniques.
Leading architects, engineers, designers and makers are introduced at each stage on the course to provide talks, guidance and tuition. There is a high ratio of tutors per participant 1:4, giving the best opportunity to develop and learn new and advanced skills in designing and making architecture.
Participants will be working individually and in teams balanced according to particular interests, skills and ambitions. Daily workshops and tasks are taught followed by discussions, reviews and stories told around the campfire or other suitable venue.
Materials are sourced from Dorset and Hooke Park the surrounding 350 acre working forestry. Part of the course includes selecting, felling, cutting and then processing a suitable tree.
Participants will be introduced to a comprehensive cycle of site investigation, design, prototyping, building and then living in the Architecture that is built. Knowledge and skills in making experimental architecture at all scales are gained at each stage through the process.
